Doug Struck has been a journalist for more than 30 years as a national and foreign correspondent for The Washington Post and The Baltimore Sun. He is now Senior Journalist in Residence at Emerson College in Boston, teaches, and continues to report on environmental issues.
Struck was chief of news bureaus in the Middle East, in Asia, and Canada. He has reported from Iraq repeatedly over 14 years, and helped cover wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon, the West Bank, East Timor, the southern Philippines and Sudan. He reported from all 50 of the United States and six continents.
His environmental reporting has taken him from the Arctic, to the Northwest Passage, Greenland, the Andes in Peru, the Boreal Forests of Canada and underseas Atlantic depths.
He won a prestigious Nieman Fellowship at Harvard University in 2003-2004, was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 2002 and a fellow at George Washington University in 1998-1999.
Struck became Journalist In Residence at Emerson College in 2009. He continues to report, and received the 2010 Overseas Press Club honorable mention for best environmental story for a multimedia investigation he headed with The Christian Science Monitor and New England Center for Investigative Reporting. He is on the advisory board of the New England Center and has served as an awards judge for the Society of Environmental Journalists and the Overseas Press Club.
